Questions
- Where is the parents' page?
- In the app it is called "For Grown-ups". Tap the small round drawer knob in the top right corner of the desk screen. A question for grown-ups appears (a two-digit number times a one-digit number, different every time); enter the answer with the number keys and tap "Enter". After three wrong answers, wait 30 seconds to try again. The page closes after 2 minutes without a touch and whenever you leave the app.
- I bought All Animals but can't fold them
- Tap "Restore Purchase" on the parents' page. Anyone on the same Apple Account, or in your Family Sharing group, can use it at no extra cost. If it says "Waiting for approval", the family organizer or a parent/guardian in your family needs to approve the Ask to Buy request; then it unlocks automatically.
- Tapping the wrapped white paper doesn't open the purchase
- That's on purpose: nothing can be bought from the children's screens. The paper wiggles and Hoot says "Ask a grown-up!" Buy it on the parents' page instead.
- I have a new device (folded animals and purchases)
- The record of folded animals is stored only on the device. If you restore the new device from an iCloud or computer backup, the animals on the desk come with it. The purchase comes back with "Restore Purchase" on the parents' page (same Apple Account).
- Does it work without the internet?
- All play works offline. Only buying All Animals, showing its price, restoring the purchase and opening our other apps on the parents' page need a connection to the App Store.
- My child finds folding hard
- Drag the glowing corner along the arrow and let go past halfway. If dragging is hard, tap the corner and then the glowing spot it goes to. When your child seems stuck, Hoot shows the fold again or offers to fold together. Turn on "Teacher folds for the child" on the parents' page and Hoot shows each fold even if your child doesn't touch.
- We made a wrong fold
- Tap "Unfold" to go back one fold and try again.
- I can't hear the teacher
- In this version Hoot doesn't speak. Her words appear as short captions on screen (VoiceOver reads them). So that children who can't read yet can follow along, she teaches by showing each fold first.
- There is no sound
- Sound effects and animal sounds follow Silent Mode. On iPhone, check the Ring/Silent switch or the Action button; on iPad, open Control Center and check the bell. You can change how strong sounds and vibrations are with "Feedback" (Quiet, Normal, Lively) on the parents' page.
- How can I limit play time?
- With the "Bedtime timer" (off, or 10 to 30 minutes) on the parents' page, the desk lamp dims when time is up and Hoot says goodnight. It never turns off in the middle of a fold. It's a gentle cue, not a lock. For a firm limit, use Screen Time in your device's Settings to set a limit for this app alone.
- My child is left-handed
- Use "Handedness" on the parents' page to put the teacher and captions on the other side from the folding hand. "Auto" guesses from the folding finger.
- Are folded animals or personal data sent anywhere?
- Your child's work and play are never collected or sent to the developer. The app doesn't use the camera, microphone or photo library, and it has no saving to Photos or sharing. See the Privacy Policy.
For how to play, see How it works on the home page.
